Our projects
My Safe Haven
Our journey began in 2007, in the Reunidas Settlement, next to our neighborhood, a place that quickly became the beating heart of our actions. Friend and councillor Rogério Moraes told us about the need to care for the children in the settlement, and invited us to support the Head of the Neighborhood, Mr. Cristóvão, a very special person who was dedicated to meeting the needs of the residents in some way. The project grew in such a way that we were no longer able to control the number of children, as those from the surrounding neighborhoods also came and it became difficult to control and provide the necessary security.
We had to look for a form of organization that would allow us to provide this security, so we started by joining ABRINQ with the Child-Friendly Company Program, which mobilizes and recognizes companies that do not exploit child labour and develop social actions for the benefit of children and adolescents, aged 0 to 18, who live in communities and/or are children of employees.
As a result of discarding documents, we got to know CEANE - Centro de Educação Ambiental Nova Esperança (Nova Esperança Environmental Education Center), a cooperative of waste pickers and recyclers in the municipality of Uruguaiana, which has a small school to take care of its members' children and ensure that they are not left alone while their parents go out to collect. Under the leadership of the kind D. Carmen, we began our involvement with CEANE through activities such as "Story Time", a time for reading books that reinforced our commitment and provided moments of shared learning.
We combine our direct support for children with our commitment to environmental and social responsibility, exercising sustainable practices in the disposal of BPS and client tax documents, in accordance with the LGPD. This process not only ensures the privacy and security of information, but also benefits CEANE by contributing to its income through paper recycling, with the help of a shredding machine donated by Banco do Brasil.
Our initiative, which began with 50 children, has expanded over the years to include around 500 in the Reunidas Settlement and an average of 100 in Nova Esperança. Our actions have been recognized by the Uruguaiana City Council, a testament to our commitment to the community.

Photos of the start in 1999: BPS set up in the small "warehouse" of a complex belonging to the former Cooperativa Valuruguai. Where it began its activities in 2000, a simple structure.
Our own head office opened in 2003 - we built it right next to and facing the railroad gate, where from our windows we could watch the Ponde Rolante doing the transhipment, or confirming whether our wagons or containers would be part of the first train! Our forte was bulk, lots of corn, wheat, millet and beans imported from Argentina and Paraguay. We controlled all the disinfection of the bulk wagons, weighing, MAPA and RFB clearance.
We also began to represent a logistics company that had a portfolio of clients on the railroad, since RFFSA-Rede Ferrovia Federal S.A., and at the time, by contract, was taking over ALL-América.
Latina Logística. The company handled containers and wagons for Argentine imports and exports of goods and merchandise that depended on the railroad to carry their products, such as steel coils, palanquil, bentonite, perlite... all products suitable for rail transport, due to their traction and load capacity. Unfortunately, for political reasons, operations were suspended almost five years ago, contrary to the evolution of the times. Longing for the train!
Records and publications from magazines, newspapers, among others, about BPS over the years, showing its journey through time.
A selection of some of the activities we did with the children, partly in the Reunidas Settlement - Bairro Santo Inácio, where it all began and grew so much that we could no longer control the number of children, because they were so many. from the surrounding neighborhoods were also coming and it became difficult to controlThe event was held in a public space, we would be responsible for anything that happened to them, we offered lots of toys, presents, snacks and they could get hurt. The festivities were always under the coordination of the Head of Neighborhood, Mr. CristóvãoHe was a great friend, who gave a lot of himself to make it happen and they were beautiful parties, with children's choirs.
I decided that we needed guidance, so we joined ABRINQFor several years, we organized ourselves better and looked for an institution that was already structured and needed some support to offer our services. It was then that we found CEANE- Nova Esperança Environmental Education Center and we know your President to Mrs. CarmenA very kind and caring person.
O CEANE is actually a Cooperative of Waste Pickers and Recyclers of the Municipality of Uruguaiana and the CEANE School caters for the children of the cooperative members who would be left alone while their parents go out to collect waste.. So we found what we were looking for, it was very rewarding to work with them, we made the "Story Time (reading a book and then having to say what they understood and then draw a picture) the children and we had a lot of fun, followed by a snack, which they loved (around 10 to 12 children per shift, when they got together there were many more).
Even so, at the end of the year, the Christmas Party takes place. At first, it was only supposed to be for the children registered with CEANE, but as the location allowed access, children from the "surrounding area" also took part, so it became much bigger, with an average of 100 children coming to the party. "They are Angels that God sent to earth to teach us humility and love without interest. Any touch or look of love wins the heart of a neighborhood child."
